Day One is the most polished journaling app on iOS: a decade of refinement, great media support, multi-platform sync. What it isn't built around is AI. MirrorNotes is: daily personalized prompts, mood analysis, weekly digests, and a journal you can ask questions, all running on your iPhone, never in the cloud, and completely free.

Day One's strength is preservation. It's where a decade of photos, locations, and memories live, beautifully organized. If that's your journaling, Day One is genuinely hard to beat, and we won't pretend otherwise.
MirrorNotes is built for a different job: reflection. You write; the app reads what you wrote, on your phone, with a local model, and gives something back:
Plenty of people will. Day One as the long-term media archive; MirrorNotes as the daily writing and reflection habit. MirrorNotes is free and unlimited, so that costs nothing to try.
Not yet, import is on the roadmap. New entries you write in MirrorNotes are yours: stored on-device in SwiftData and synced to your own iCloud.
The on-device AI is the product. Modern iPhone chips run Gemma 3 well; spreading thin across platforms would mean either cloud AI (breaking the privacy guarantee) or a worse experience. iPhone-first is a deliberate trade.
Every feature, completely free. No trial, no card, no catch.
